The Field Options button is available from the Field Setup dialog. Field Options allows you further control over how and where your fields print in a layout.
• Display Set For: Tells you what field you're working with. If you want to work on a different field, click on the field in the "Display Order" list.
• Display Order: Controls the order that fields will be displayed and printed. In most cases, you will want the "First Line" first, and the "Second Line" next. To change the order, select the field and click on the up or down arrow. However, regardless of display order, only the fields selected for display in Field Setup will print.
• Column: Every Layout can be printed as one column or two columns. If you want to print in two columns, you could have your name and address on the left and your phone numbers on the right. If you want to print a field all the way across from left to right, you should choose "Span". If you want to restrict a field to printing in either the left or the right column, you must choose either "First" or "Second" column. (You can specify where the Second Column begins in "Form Setup", Options.)
• Next Field on New Line: Forces the next printable field to print on a new line.
• Trailing Characters: If you want specific characters (including spaces) to always print after a field, you can type those characters here. (For example, you might want to type a comma to follow the "City" field to separate it from the "State" field.) Trailing characters have the format of the field they follow.
• Max Field Length: Restricts the number of characters for any field to a number you specify. Extra characters simply won't print. For example, in most layouts, the phone key field is restricted to printing just the first character.
• Max Field Line Count: Restricts the number of lines a field can occupy to a number you specify. Extra lines won't print.
